Before we talk about the specifics of an account manager resume, let us, very briefly, delve into the specifics of the job assigned to the account manager.

Account Manager Job Specifics

In layman’s terms, an account manager is essentially the intermediate link between the clients and the organization in terms of finance. An account manager represents the interests of a client inside an organization. He or she is also the person who directly interacts with the clients and tries to redress their grievances and promote their requests as much as possible. Doing so gains the trust and respect of the client for you and in turn, for the organization. That is the impetus needed for the client to keep backing the same company to indulge in further business transactions. The more opportunities the organization/company seizes, the more revenue generated. Therefore, the account manager is truly a very vital part of the organization.

Note: The particulars of the account manager job may vary according to the rules and guidelines of the company policy, so if you apply for the position at Company ‘X’, you may not find yourself the major business contact for the customers.

Writing an Account Manager Resume

Step 1 Start with your personal details like birth date, address, marital and familial status.

Step 2
Give a quick introduction explaining why you would make the ideal account manager for the organization. Let it not be more than two to three sentences.

For example,

'An efficient account manager should serve as an excellent two-way communication between the client and organization. For this very reason, my good communication skills and experience in the field of business administration make me the ideal candidate for the position of account manager at your esteemed institution. My clarity in language and interaction while negotiating transactions will surely prove to be an asset to your organization.'

Step 3 Write a one-line objective.

Example:

‘I seek to optimize my analytical, administrative and communication skills in the service of your company’.

Step 4 List down your basic qualities relevant to the job of account manager e.g. Good social skills, administrative experience, clarity in negotiation and dealings et cetera.

Step 5 List down all your past experiences in the field, the most impressive (being your stint at the most prestigious agencies) appearing first. Write down your highlights and major achievements at each of your previous places of employment. (Note: To apply for this job, you at least need to have three years experience in a managerial position).

Step 6 Write down your biggest achievements outside the field of the job.

Step 7
Finish off your resume with your academic background (the biggest achievements appearing first).

Note: Speaking of academics, a candidate applying for an account managerial position should at least be a graduate.
